Craigieburn Primary is attached to the Green Gully Primary Sports Division and is affiliated with School Sports Victoria. Throughout the year students from Grades 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in district events such as Athletics Carnivals and Cross Country with the opportunity to progress to national level.
Craigieburn Primary is also involved in various sporting partnership programs that facilitate a wide range of clinics, programs and specialist field days such as McDonald’s Basketball, NRL Rugby, Cricket Victoria Carnivals and Tennis Australia Hot Shot Competition.
Students in Grades 5 and 6 participate in regular intra-school sport with students from Grade 6 having the opportunity to represent their school in a weekly inter-school sports competition held every Friday morning against other schools in the district.
All students participate in a weekly, one-hour physical education specialist lesson.
Students in Prep, Grades 1 and 2 are introduced to basic motor skills such as running, hopping, jumping, skipping, catching, throwing, kicking, rolling, balancing, twisting and turning. They develop the capacity to link these skills into more complex and coordinated movement sequence and begin to apply these to appropriately modified games and sport-specific settings. They use basic tactics and apply their increasing knowledge of rules to keep games and activities enjoyable and safe.
Students in Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 refine these motor skills to apply them to increasingly complex games, activities and sport-specific situations. They use skills such as strategic thinking to improve game performance. They are encouraged to work with their peers during learning activities to improve performance and develop skills in providing constructive feedback. They will monitor and analyse their own performance and will undertake a variety of roles in team games including player, coach, umpire and administrator through the annual SEPEP program run at the end of each year.
Could you please ensure that appropriate footwear is worn during these sessions and that they have their school hat and water bottle in readiness for any outside activity.
